1. Kernel 2.6 hangs when trying to use Netgear FA310-TX. Instead of the tulip driver Knoppix is using de4x5.c which works under the 2.4 kernel provided but not with the 2.6 one. Would be great to have a cheat code or expert mode to select which driver to use for the network card. This is first distro that is not using the tulip driver for these cards. (BH)
+

+
2. After installing to HDD, ps2 mouse freeze when boot up default 'Linux' but the same mouse works ok if switch to kernel 2.6 ( Thx for the losetup -e AES... fix.by this release )
+

+
3. Ipw2100 doesn't work any more with both Kernel 2.4 and 2.6 (the wifi card is not detected whereas it used to with previous versions of Knoppix 3.4), probably due to a bad firmware image (The version of IPW2100 used seems to be the 0.44 which need a new firmware image, see: (Julien)

4. Note that items 1, 3, 15, and 16 of this buglist, along with my own problem (see ), relate to version 3.4 not being able to detect certain wi-fi cards. There are a number of recent posts in the networking forum about problems detecting other wifi cards as well. I think that the detection script may have been written before the release of version 3.4 - and since 3.4 has two different kernels, the directory structure has changed slightly to accommodate. In the 2.6 kernel, the script is failing to find configuration files (in my case, prism2_cs) because it is looking in the wrong place. Click my link, above, and you'll see why (JD)

5. Kernel 2.6 only - live-cd. Serial mouse is not detected. (oscar)

6. OOo 1.1.1 : in der Online Hilfe fehlen die deutschen Umlaute (MH)

7. In LiveCD, KFloppy can not format diskette. Bug noted from the first release of Knoppix 3.4 but still no fix (dmk)
+
*Same here. Booting Knoppix 3.4-2004-05-17 "fromhd". Formatting MS-DOS disks did work in 3.3 but in 3.4 it gives the  "/mnt/floppy doesn't exit" error message. I have to use fdformat and mformat on Knoppix 3.4 to be able to format disks. :(
+

+
8. knoppixdir= cheatcode still does not look for splash.sh and knoppix.sh in the knoppixdir directory
+

+
9. IBM T21 ?Think Pad built-in ethernet 3c556B does not work. Module is loaded with no errors. Connection to the LAN is NOT established. WORKAROUND: start knoppix with acpi=off KNOPPIX 3.2/3.3 worked fine. ?off topic: mephis distribution has the same problem. knoppx and mephis are based on debian (Igor)
+

+
10. Open Office trivial fix: When saving documents, I see several pop-up Boxes for a missing file. This can be avoided by adding a soft link as follows:
+
`cd /usr/lib ; ln -s ../../opt/openoffice/ openoffice`
+

+
11. smbclient limited to 2 gb files. I believe this bug is fixed in newer versions of smbclient.
+

+
12. Kernel 2.6 only - live-cd. Logitech USB Optical Mouse is not detected. (Frankie)
+

+
13. Captive NTFS script sucks out all of the operating memory while searching my Windows HD partition for drivers, until the system eventually grinds to a halt. See wishlist #3 below, also. (JD)
+

+
14. Reminder from previous buglists that Open Office (EN) still has German submenus under File menu. See prior buglists for details. (JD)
+

+
15. My DLink DWL-G520+ wireless network card is not detected by the system at all when running kernel 2.6. Works fine with kernel 2.4.
+

+
NOTE - see #4 above. Modprobe is looking in the wrong place for the driver. I don't think it's a kernel problem, but the script thinks it needs to look for the driver in the 2.6 directory, when it's actually in the 2.4 directory. (JD)
+

+
16. USB Wlan Card (prism2-based) detected as device WLAN0, but wlan-config script try to find card only as PCMCIA (/proc/.../wireless), and as USB (/proc/...) no try.
+

+
17. Keyboard problem in Knoppix 3.4 (3.3 didn't have this problem!): Wenn I strike a letter, a whole row (or at least several of the same) of this letter appears. Hardware: Dual Celeron 500, overclocked and stable @ 2 x 566MHz, 256 MB SDRAM, Supermicro P6DBE mobo. (Same on ASUS A7M266-D 2 * AthlonMP (1.8+ and 2.0+)) Stephan Mueller, stephg50@yahoo.com.au

18. the kernel module drm/i810.o is not up to date with XFree 4.3.0 (I suppose it's true for other drm modules like i830). This make unusable the OpenGL hardware acceleration. Updating this module with those at solve this problem.
+

+
19. the link /usr/bin/gcj points to gcj-3.2, but gcj-3.3 is included on the CD instead, so the link is broken.
+

+
20. When I boot up with the 2.6 kernel and no memory plugged into a USB port, my mouse (PS/2 wheel ball) is fine. I can plug in the pen drive, mount it manually, and the mouse still works ok.
+

+
If Knoppix26 boots up with the pen drive plugged in, the mouse cursor will not move when I get to KDE.
+

+
I grabbed dmesg output after each of these scenarios in case it's clueful. The diff is

21.  After loading knoppix as root:knoppix single (or knoppix 2), passwd, kdm.
+
Open Office doesn't load.
+

+
22.  Problem:
+
On Dell Latitude and some other laptops with DMA problems.
+
Booting procedure hangs up on the following stage:
+
Looking for CDROM in: /dev/scd0 ... while CD keep spinnig.
+
Solution:
+
Boot with the following boot parameters:
+
Knoppix nodma
+
From mailing list, you can read: this problem appears under certain VIA chipset,
+
there was one chipset that corrupts data with dma. It looks that a bios
+
update fixes that problem (maybe in some cases), Chris

23. Potential problem on HP Evo N800c. Screen resolution 1400x1050, supported under Windows, is also supported in Knoppix but, while the resolution itself is fine, without performing any other action than selecting 1400x1050 from the tray, the desktop is not extended at full screen and remains tiled. 24. Many printers that worked under knoppix 3.3 no longer work under 3.4, since the CUPS drivers are now missing from the distro.  (knoppix 3.3 has 198 cups driver files (with ppd.gz extension) in /KNOPPIX/usr/share/cups/model/gimp-print however knoppix 3.4 only has 16 uncompressed ppd files in /KNOPPIX/usr/share/cups/model, and no gimp-print subdirectory containing compressed ppd files.) 25. I've got a strange, serious problem with KHOPPIX 3.4 2004-05-17. With a 2.6  kernel loaded, ext[3 2]fs mounted partition, made from ASPLinux or Mandrakelinux installation, shows incomplete file listings and data modification on this partition corrupts partition data to inrecoverable state. I can't either mount XFS and ntfs partitions. Mount fails with a "Can't read superblock" message. Mount with -t xfs|ntfs option also fails. I try to do this on several mashines with a same results. But if I run mkfs.ext2 on partition from KNOPPIX I can mount this partition on other Linuxes. With a 2.4 kernel loaded everything seems OK. (denis at mezon dot ru)

26. Broadcom 4401 problems (worked in V3.4-2004-05-03). I can bring the interface up but get a load of errors and I can't ping anything on the network except my own IP. EDIT: I found a fix for this but it works by having to turn the computer off and unplugging the power cable so that (I assume) the cards registers are completely reset. I still class this as a bug though.

27. Bittorrent downloads almost work in Mozilla (but not quite)
+

+
; I click on a torrent download (in xiph.org!) and after it downloads the torrent file I get a dialog box containing : ERROR: Could not load wxPython.
+
In order to use this script, you must have wxPython installed.
+
It is available in the package libwxgtk2.3-python.
+
(libwxgtk2.2-python will not work with bittorrent, and also triggers this message)
+
Note: As of Jan 24, 2003, libwxgtk2.3-python isn't in testing
+
and has been discounted for 115 days.  You can use btdownloadheadless.py
+
and btdownloadcurses.py to accomplish the same task from a terminal.

28. After remastering, all menu items can have a funky transparent background that makes it impossible to read (this is not just a setting). (Maybe apt-get is updating something incompatible?)
+

+
29. Notebook manufacturer Clevo mod 400v loading from CD Kernel 2.6 goes ok but at the end can not use the mouse pad. I made some atempts with cheatcodes but no result.
+
Using an external USB mouse it works, as it does loading kernel 2.4 that works just fine. So it seems not to be a BIOS issue, as it would happen also woth 2.4.
+
The same machine has 3.3 isntalled in the HDD with no prob.

Wishlist (next number=10)
+

+
1. user= cheatcode so that it becomes possible to run as user=root. $USER and $HOME should be set and treated accordingly as variables rather than hardcoded "knoppix" in the startup scripts.
+

+
2. Add promise sata module
+

+
3. In the script to allow Captive NTFS, please amend script to allow users to specify a directory or folder to search for NTFS drivers. If I run the script, the computer gets slower and slower until it grinds to a halt. The only workaround I've found is to copy the files to a smaller drive (e.g., a USB thumbdrive) and umount the Windows HD partition entirely, then specify a location in a console command line. See [httphttp://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=47365#47365] for details, alternatively, if you have a persistent home, it may work to simply copy them to /var/lib/captive(thanks to eco2geek for pointing this out to me, JD)
+

+
4. Please include a better image viewer than ?Kuick Show, which is not suitable for arranging files into directories (one can not select multiple files and there is no move-to-directory functionality). Maybe ?Show Img would be more suitable.
+

+
5. I'd like to see you incorporate klik as a permanent feature. (JD)
+

+
6. PLEASE, standardize on the one most recent kernel. 2.6 is wonderful, but the nonstandard dual kernel directory structure is causing problems (see bug #4). Besides, the 2.7 kernel has a bugfix in it. Time to say goodbye to 2.4. (JD)
+

+
7. Pencam / Camera:/ bug.  Essentially, my STV680.o type camera cannot be accessed.  Depending on the program trying to access the camera, one says "Cannot access directory /", while another says "Cannot claim USB device".  This may have to do with STV680.o being necessary for the ongoing video, but getting in the way of picture download -- or it may be a hotplug problem.  Do note that I have tried "rmmod stv680.o", but I still can't get the camera to work.  I have gotten hotplug plus the camera to work in Debian Linux in the past, however. (Mike R.)
+

+
8. Openoffice.org packages from Debian repositories: the Debian package openoffice.org and its dependences are smaller an more beautifull than the openoffice-de-en used in Knoppix until now. I think it would be a good idea to replace it. (Fabio pt_BR)
+

+
9. (applies to all versions since I think 3.2): Please include a cursor theme something similar to the old standard black cursor. The current small white cursor is very difficult to see on a laptop, the only real option the the redglass cursor which is not much better. (Crashed Again)
+

+
Storage device mount problem.
+

+
Been running Knoppix 3.4/2.4.26 on HD successfully for several
+
months.  Use internal CD and DVD plus external scsi CD
+
and HD with Amiga/Amithlon.  Successfully installed hpoj for HP
+
PSC 2355.
+

+
Rebooted recently and KDE desktop was cluttered with 12 CD
+
icons.  /mount shows these as locked files.
+

+
SCSI CD and HD appear on desktop intermittently but are found in
+
KDE File Manager but will not read.
+

+
What caused these and how are they corrected?
+

+
Thank you,
+

Budb
