I just added this new buglist, since I found bugs in 4.0.1. ;-) -KK

1.) Reported by: KK

The knoppix-terminalserver script does not setup the initrd correctly because ld-linux.so.2 is skipped when parsing the ldd output. Therefore, neither pump nor ifconfig can start when booting the terminalserver client.

Solution: Prior to starting the terminalserver, do a

wget -O - ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix-dvd/KNOPPIX_V4.0.1DVD-knoppix-terminalserver.patch | sudo patch -p0

2.) Reported by: KK

The automatically generated desktop icons for harddisks are named "Festplatte" in all languages. Sorry, I screwed up here when shortening the hd icon label in order to display the real device name.

3.) Reported by: KK

/usr/bin/cdrecord, /usr/bin/cdrdao, /usr/bin/cdda2wav and /usr/bin/cdparanoia have wrong (missing) group execute permissions.

Solution: Before using any of these programs or running k3b, do a

sudo chmod g+w /usr/bin/{cdrecord,cdrdao,cdda2wav,cdparanoia}

4.) Reported by: pbs

OpenOffice does not open existing documents.

Solution: See workaround for bug #18 in http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Bugs/3.9-2005-05-27.

5.) Reported by: pbs

Mouse not activated when using KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch; KVM switch works transparently for V3.8.2,V3.9,V4.0DVDLinuxtag.

'''Update''' 20050916: Wiggling mouse before and during the startup autoconfiguration sequence does help.

6:) Reported by: guest

Boot option testcd don't work cause new version of md5sum change option -v to --status for verbose mode

7.) Reported by: KK

unionfs is broken again, but not as heavily as in 3.9. If you install certain packages with dpkg or apt-get, a kernel oops can happen, though it doesn't freeze the system. This is quite bad for people (like me) who like to test-install new software on the live system, so because of this (and the prior reported bugs) there will be a hotfix of the 4.0.2 DVD soon (probably even before I get a chance to finish the CD).

8.) Reported by: Witbear

Problems with networking. Having to use 'nodhcp' cheat code to boot. Trying to use Network to add adapters (namely RA2500 wireless and VIA Rhine II on my particular machine), the wizard works fine until 'Apply' when process hangs. Therefore can't use networking.

9.) Reported by: stuartyeates

The dhcp fails to renew leases. This typically results in a complete loss of networking exactly 24 hours after booting (most leases run for 24 hours).
Pbshttp://ftp.knoppix.net/wiki/Bugs/4.0.1DVDBugs/4.0.1DVD2005-09-12T16:28:42Z
Pbs:

unionfs is broken again, but not as heavily as in 3.9.
Problems with networking. Having to use 'nodhcp' cheat code to boot. Trying to use Network to add adapters (namely RA2500 wireless and VIA Rhine II on my particular machine), the wizard works fine until 'Apply' when process hangs. Therefore can't use networking.
Pbshttp://ftp.knoppix.net/wiki/Bugs/4.0.1DVDBugs/4.0.1DVD2005-08-25T15:41:22Z
Pbs:

Solution: Before using any of these programs or running k3b, do a

sudo chmod g+w /usr/bin/{cdrecord,cdrdao,cdda2wav,cdparanoia}

4.) Reported by: pbs

OpenOffice does not open existing documents. See workaround for bug #18 in V3.9-2005-05-27. (Also, Openoffice 2.0 filename extensions are not automatically recognized.)
5.) Reported by: pbs
Mouse is now dead when using KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch; directly plugging in a mouse works. KVM switch still works transparently for V3.8.2,V3.9,V4.0DVDLinuxtag.

List V3.8.2 bugs here

1. Fails to boot from external USB DVD-CD drive

Early in boot, it prints : Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem.
and drops into a mini shell. See also bug 6 on page [[Bugs/3.8.1|V3.8.1 bugs]]

Solution?: Line 363 of linuxrc inside /boot/isolinux/minirt.gz may have two inconsistent extra underscores; "$FOUND_USB$FOUND_FIREWIRE" should likely read "$FOUNDUSB$FOUNDFIREWIRE". Untried. I have no USB-CD. [pbs 20050520]

2. smbfs has a 2 gigabyte file size limit

In the 21th century. tsk tsk tsk ...

Workaround : use cifs instead of smbfs ("modprobe cifs" might be needed)

--[[User:Xerces8|Xerces8]] 09:14, 16 May 2005 (GMT)

3. Serial mouse is not more detected since first 2.6.x kernel. Actually it is detected as "USB Mouse".
Please try to fix this. (By the way, no problem with Kanotix remastered versions of Knoppix, so it may work). If it is not easy to always automatically detect the mouse what about force detection with a new cheatcode, for example knoppix serialmouse, or knoppix usbmouse etc. (oscar)

4. The losetup and mount programs have not been patched to support the multi-key setup of loop-aes. From loop-aes README file: "Setting up multi-key gpg key-file and using that key-file with old single-key only aware losetup/mount programs is dangerous." SOLUTION: This can be fixed by replacing the outdated mount-aes package with loop-aes-utils package from Debian. Please also include the aespipe package (installed size is only 88 kB) in KNOPPIX.

5. boot parameters "noeject noask toram" used together cause a hangup during shutdown. Without "noeject noprompt" machine does a clean poweroff. (jari_heikkinen 20 May 2005)

6. No connection to internet via ISDN with FritzCard 2.0 PCI, with both possibilities.

7. xchat gives segmentation fault

8. When I restart Knoppix with my saved configuration; the system time is changed (+5 hours). The configuration was meant for introducing my printer and a swap file in a dos partion. I can reproduce this pheanomenon.

9. Ndiswrapper 0.1.1 broken in Knoppix 3.8.2. "Modprobe ndiswrapper" fails dues to missing module (ndiswrapper.ko ?). Need to recompile from source and reinstall? [pbs 20050531]
Pbshttp://ftp.knoppix.net/wiki/Bugs/3.8.2Bugs/3.8.22005-05-20T17:00:31Z
Pbs:
